In America, two men arrested and charged by police in the southern state of Louisiana have been charged in a second county on suspicion of running an online sportsbetting operation. Authorities stated that Shane Musca-Rello and Fredrick Walters along with Randall Rose from Jefferson Parish near the city of New Orleans are already facing charges stemming from an earlier sting after police placed bets on TheTinyTuna.com. The sportsbetting website, which requires guests to register, is allegedly operated by the men and has already been the subject of a bust in the men’s home county. Musca-Rello and Walters have now been arrested and charged in St Landry Parish in the centre of the state near the town of Opelousas by Louisiana State Police over the same sting and are being held pending a bail hearing. Louisiana State Police have been involved in two previous high profile sting operations targeting online gambling operations. In 2006 Peter Dick, the Non-Executive Chairman of UK gambling group Sportingbet was arrested at New York airport on a sealed Louisiana warrant and detained pending extradition. This subsequently failed and Sportingbet paid a $400,000 settlement to the state. More recently, Nick Jenkins and two colleagues were extradited to Louisiana from Washington following a raid on their Betcha.com site with the results of that prosecution still awaited. |
