New Zealand Restrictive Legislation

The protests in New Zealand are already beginning now that the government has announced plans to ban online casinos gambling while also evolving the country’s lottery onto the internet. The local shops and stores currently selling lottery tickets fear that the ability to print out lotto tickets through the Internet will significantly decrease the amount of revenue the shops get through lotto ticket sales.

Then there are the online casino companies’ protests that New Zealand is mimicking the controversial U.S. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act with a selective and discriminatory ban on internet gambling activities. Not only will citizens have the option of purchasing lottery tickets online, but the government has banned all offshore online casinos gambling company from access to the New Zealand lottery gambling market.

As for when Kiwi’s can expect to find increased limitations on the country’s online casino gambling activities – it’s just a few weeks out at this point. The ability to purchase lottery tickets online will have a long-term negative effect on retail owners who predict that a near negligible number of state lottery gamblers will continue to purchase their tickets at the store rather than printing and purchasing the tickets from home computers.
