| Beat the Casino- The Fundamental Principle One Needs to Know |
|
The first and most basic principle towards winning in the casino is to know when to quit. The majority of people who gamble in Vegas are winners to begin with. And yet these people after winning a few dollars keep on gambling. Then they keep on gambling more. This has happened to me. I thought I had a winning strategy for roulette. Slowly but surely after a few hours I had won a couple hundred dollars. I was excited and jubilant. I took a break for the night and tried to go to sleep in my hotel room. But I was too excited to go to sleep. I had a winning strategy for roulette! I got back up and went to the roulette tables to win some more money. Only this time I tripled my original betting amounts and used all of my previous winnings for my bankroll. I then proceeded to lose and lose badly. Within twenty minutes all my money was gone. I spent the rest of my vacation in Vegas doing some wonderful sightseeing and window shopping because I had no money. I should have quit when I was ahead. The Casino expects, as a rule of thumb, to pocket twenty percent of any money you lay down on the roulette table. If you buy in for chips with two hundred dollars they assume they will pocket forty dollars. And yet the house advantage, or edge, on a table game like roulette is only about five and a half percent. This is a big difference between the mathematical edge the house has and its real or actual edge. And it's only because gamblers do not know when to quit when they are ahead. They just know how to quit when they have lost.
