Dealing with The River
There all types of poker players in the world. Some play free poker at home or in pubs, some enjoy poker tournaments, and some prefer Cash Games. Whatever the case may be, they all love to play poker. Believe it or not, regardless of what level you’re at, there’s always an opportunity to learn poker. Learning new strategies isn’t just for beginners, which brings us to an interesting topic: the river.

Do you love the river? Do you fear it? Chances are that if you’re a good, solid player who likes to grind it out, you don’t like the river. On the other hand, if you’re a gambler who likes to take chances, you probably love the river. Okay, nobody really loves the river, unless they’re a little unbalanced.

What do we do about the river? How do we approach that final, money-making/money-losing card? How many times do you see someone get very angry after seeing the river card and then blame everything but the river?

First of all, don’t be that guy. You need to show composure in order to develop a strong table image. Secondly, the answer to how to deal with the river is simple – don’t. That’s right; don’t deal with it. When you play poker game, even though you’re secretly calculating everything in your head, on the outside, and with things beyond your control, you must be a robot.

The river is part of the game and that will never change. Everyone will go through taking bad beats. Make sure you’re one of the people that takes it in stride. You should also act the same way when you suck out on someone else. No one wants pie thrown in their face.

Remember, next time you hit the felt, the river is just part of the game. Sometimes it’s your friend and sometimes it’s your enemy. Don’t get emotional about it either way and watch your table image grow. When your table image grows, opponents begin to respect you more. When opponents begin to respect you more, they don’t want to get involved in pots with you as much. This, in turn, will lead to you winning more money.

Ever notice that the best athletes are the ones that remain composed in pressure situations? Wouldn’t you like to be that person? With poker, you have a chance to do just that – be the best.
